>> i ordered the “new american version” from amazon, what do you think?
The NAB is the “official” Bible recommended by the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. It is a good Bible, although it can be a little “modern”. But it is the one you will hear read at Mass.
Makes sense (oral and tradition) because….even the Devil can quote from the Bible (Matt 4) Satan quoted Psalms 91 to Jesus Christ (Matt 4 Wilderness temptations)
Did Martin luther added the word FAITH ALONE in the book of Romans? if so do Protestant Bibles still contain these words?

>> Did Martin luther added the word FAITH ALONE in the book of Romans?
Yes, he did.
>> if so do Protestant Bibles still contain these words?
Some do, many do not.
Or check the “Ignatius Bible”. (RSV Catholic Edition)

…We are Catholic, welcome home…
This guy is awesome. how can I get this channel on tv?
I’m all for sharing one’s beliefs but had there been no Reformation we would not have a system of feudal government, democracy and education available to all. “Free thinking” doesn’t seem to be allowed through Roman Catholic theology. Would penecillin or even something as obvious as harnassed electricity have been discovered/invented were their inventors not of calvinist stock? Each to their own but some people are so deluded it actually is not funny. i doubt you’ll allow this to show…
Oh, I’ll let it show – because it is just completely wrong and I think people need to be told.
Feudalism, democracy and universal education (the “university” as it was called) are all pre-Reformation events. So, it surprises me you would use these as examples.
Why is it that I do not disagree with anything you said, but felt repelled by the way you chose to say it?
Which scholarly translation of the Bible we use is really a trivial issue, compared with other things that really matter, like the Eucharist and what it means to us. I wish you’d create a vido about that!
The issue of which Bible to use is HUGE – especially given the fact Protestant translations miss out seven whole books.
As for Eucharistic videos . . . you didn’t check our channel before posting this, did you?
Congratulations St. Michaels Media
Catholic Apologetics is the next big thing in the Christian world
hello
i just wanted to ask if 1. the book of enoch and the assumption of moses was in the septuagint 2. if it was then why did it not make it in the canon? 3. did the apostles make a mistake when they quoted from it?
thank you, God bless you and more power, i love your show in our familyland channel!
Assumption of Moses wasn’t in the Septuagint – it’s a lost text. Enoch is in SOME versions (and, in fact, in some Bibles!)
Still, in the actual canon (formally settled by the RCC) Enoch is not in there – because it is not inspired. The LXX is not a list of inspired books – it is a list of books, SOME of which are are inspired (most of which, to be honest).
Inspiration is discovered and promulgated by the RCC. Only the Church has such authority.
when you say the assumption of moses is lost do you mean it was once in the hands of the apostles and then lost?
thank you!
No-one knows; we don’t have it now. The author of Jude was certainly AWARE of it, but we don’t have a copy of it.
hi, it’s me again, pls help!
I have this “JERUSALEM BIBLE” and it says in the anunciation “rejoice highly favored” instead of “hail! full of grace” is this a not so Catholic bible???
thank you!!!
The Jerusalem Bible is a Catholic Bible in that it contains all the books (73) rather than just the ones the Protestants decided to not cut out.
It is, however, not a very accurate translation.
I love you, Mike.
So dont take this the wrong way but
You speak about the accuracy of the Jerusalem Bible.
So heres a quick comparison with the NAB.
1st Samuel
Jerusalem Bible -
from the Philistine ranks; his name was Goliath, from Gath; he was six cubits and one span tall.
New American Bible -
Goliath of Gath came out from the Philistine camp; he was six and a half feet tall.
Do you really believe Goliath was only 6 ½ feet tall?
(The same height as Michael Jordan).
>> Do you really believe Goliath was only 6 ½ feet tall?
Firstly, we must realize that the stories in the Bible are not necessarially meant to be read as perfectly accurate in terms of measurements and other scientific information; the passage is clearly intended to show Goliath is very tall indeed and is a formidable fighter. He might have been 6 cubits and one and a half spans, for example.
Secondly, the “cubit” is a measurement which has many different values. The closest approximation today is the foot.
The NAB chooses to translate the word “cubit” to the nearest measurement we are familiar with – the foot.
As for “how tall was Goliath?” I don’t know. The Bible says he was 6 cubits and one span – which is, depending on the cubit used, anything from 6 and a half feet to about ten.
The IMPORTANT thing is that he was a powerful champion who David the shepherd boy defeated with the help of God.
How tall Goliath is is not a matter of theological importance – he was big and powerful and got taken down by a shepherd boy with a sling and help from God.
BUT the translation of the “full of grace” passage from Luke IS important – it speaks to doctrine. And the Jerusalem gets that very badly wrong.
@VetusTestamentum –I wish that the NAB held onto the traditional non-inclusive sexist language when it got revised into the more litteral version we have today !!!
