As this is serving as my personal log of our adventure of getting out of debt and as a tool for encouraging others I wanted to give a quick summary of months 2 and 3. Feb. is usually a good rental month for us because it is when most people start getting their taxes back. Along about November and December we starting getting calls from tenants struggling through the holidays who promise us they will get us caught up when their taxes come in. Some do and some just burn us. But this Febuary we collected about four thousand extra in delinquent rent. So we had quite a bit of additional income. I thought God might use that to really give us a jump start on some of our debt or at least in building our maintence account. We have a great deal of property and not really any savings…

In January of this year my husband and I became committed to getting out of debt. Over the last couple of years God has really been working in our hearts to want to become extravagant givers into his kingdom. For a couple who has robbed God of tithes for most of the 20 years we have been married and lived a pretty selfindulgent lifestyle this was a huge change God worked in us and we give him all the glory for that. Now all we want to be is a funnel. We want God to funnel money into our lives and right back out again into his Kingdom. One major barrier to becoming the type of givers we want to be is the 1.2 million dollars of debt that we have. It totals nearly $14,000 a month in payments that once paid off God could really use to do some…

Here in the U.S. we live in a creditdriven society. If you do not use credit cards, have a car payment, mortgage, student loan and other types of loans, you are viewed as if there is something wrong with you. The purpose of this blog is not to debate whether or not a Christian should ever go into debt. Most people would be unable to pay cash for their homes and many are unable to pay cash for their vehicles. Believe me, I understand that. Also, businesses often need a line of credit in order to to do business. Also, I am not saying that a Christian should not have any credit cards. Many people do use credit responsibly. They use a credit card to pay their monthly bills and then at the end of the month, they pay the bill in full. I know someone who pays their mortgage…

Bound and imprisoned by sin, Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself so that we might be set free and live life more abundantly in Him and through Him. I think that we often forget the great debt which of which we were forgiven. We may talk about how wonderful it is but does our behavior reflect that?We often behave like greedy children, crying out incessantly for the the treasures of this world. We pursue the prestige of this world making that our primary focus and try to justify our actions by saying that if we are in such a position we can do more for God and be a witness once we reach our goal. The sad truth is… once we reach our goal, we quickly set another one and race off towards it. We even attempt to use Gods Word to justify our selfish behavior. Shame on us!We often behave like…
