I have never done this blogging thing before. This is an entirely new experience. I have a journal, but the act of writing doesnt seem to quite get my emotions or thoughts out as well as Id like it too. I began this blog because I desperately need an outlet. A Christian outlet. My family has fallen apart in a matter of 3 days and I feel entirely broken. Last Thursday night began the worst time of my life. My little sister attempted to take her own life. She called me letting me know what was happening and sounded terrified. She instructed me to come to her but not say a word to my parents. How could I do that? They are her parents and needed to be involved. I told her that I had to tell them so we could all be at the hospital with her. She was…

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) My Utmost For His Highest (January 1st)

“My eager desire and hope being that I may never feel ashamed” [Philippians 1:20]. We shall all feel very much ashamed if we do not yield to Jesus on the point He has asked us to yield to Him. Paul says – “My determination is to be my utmost for His Highest.” To get there is a question of will, not of debate nor of reasoning, but a surrender of will, an absolute and irrevocable surrender on that point. An overweening consideration for ourselves is the thing that keeps us from that decision, though we put it that we are considering others. When we consider what it will cost others if we obey the call of Jesus, we tell God He does not know what our obedience will mean. Keep to the point; He does know. Shut out every other consideration and keep yourself before God for this one thing only — My Utmost for His Highest. I am determined to be absolutely and entirely for Him and for Him alone.

Mitt Romney won Tuesday’s Florida primary, tying with second-place Newt Gingrich among evangelicals by receiving 37 percent of votes from evangelicals. The votes were a boost for Romney, who received far fewer votes among evangelicals in South Carolina. The Gingrich campaign likely saw the loss coming. In the final days of the Florida campaign, the Gingrich campaign reached out to social conservatives and evangelicals, despite some steep challenges.

The Gingrich campaign announced on Tuesday that it had “nine new leaders for its Florida Faith Leaders Coalition,” according to Religion Dispatches. When Sarah Posner contacted those on the list of new leaders, she found that three of the pastors were unaware of the the coalition and were not working with the campaign. The Gingrich campaign has not responded to Posner’s requests for comment.

The Florida Faith Leaders Coalition came after Gingrich announced a position on life that was a change from the one he held just two months ago. Previously, he suggested that life begins at implantation and favored federally funded stem cell research on embryos created for in vitro fertilization process but never implanted. He told a Baptist church on Sunday that life begins at conception, he opposes all stem cell research and wants to investigate the ethics of in vitro fertilization efforts.

“I believe life begins at conception…If you have in vitro fertilization, you are creating life; therefore, we should look seriously at what the rules should be for clinics that are doing that, because they are creating life,” Gingrich said.

In December, Gingrich told ABC that human life begins at “implantation and successful implantation.” He said he took this position, “because otherwise you’re going to open up an extraordinary range of very difficult questions.”

This fit with his previous statements on the issue from 2001, when he supported President Bush’s policy on embryonic stem cell research. “For many of us, there’s a very, very real distinction between doing something with an unborn child, a fetus that is implanted, and doing something with cells in a fertility clinic that are otherwise going to be destroyed,” Gingrich said at the time.

Gingrich’s change on stem cell research came after media outlets raised questions about his previous marriages. During a debate days before the South Carolina primary, Gingrich refuted any claim that he asked his second wife for an “open marriage.” He rebuked CNN’s John King for asking him about an interview his ex-wife did for ABC.

“Every personal friend I have who knew us in that period says the story was false,” Gingrich said. “We offered several of them to ABC to prove it was false. They weren’t interested because they would like to attack any Republican.”

After the debate, however, several media outlets pressed the campaign for details on who was vouching for the former House Speaker. The Gingrich campaign conceded that it did not provide any “personal friends” to ABC; the only people the campaign offered to ABC were Gingrich’s daughters from his first marriage.

	It’s Super Weekend at Saddleback.

First, I’m teaching on “How to see what you’ve never seen before” for Week #3 of 40 Days in the Word. This is an extremely important and practical message that you’ll use the rest of your life. The Bible will never be the same to you again. You’ll learn how to let God show you what He wants to show you.

Second, we’re honoring all boys and men who have been Boy Scouts to celebrate the 100th Year of The Boy Scouts of America. Scouts will participate in every service and present the colors.

	Consider these facts:

Only one in four boys in America will become a Scout, BUT Boy Scouts account for.

64% of all Air Force Academy Graduates

68% of all West Point Graduates

70% of all Naval Academy Graduates

	72% of all Rhodes Scholars

	85% of all FBI agents

181 Scouts have become NASA astronauts – more than 50% of all astronauts

Out of every 100 Boys who Join THE SCOUTS:

12 will receive their first exposure to faith in God through Scouting

	                        2 will become pastors

8 will choose a career based on merit badge work (Steven Spielberg, etc.)

1 will use Scouting skills to save the life of another person

1 will use Scouting skills to save his own life

17 will become Scout volunteers, giving back to their community

50% who reach the rank of Eagle Scout say they value what they learned earning their badge more than their college degree!

Third, this weekend, we begin a new tradition of recognizing “Baby’s First Day at Church” for any family who brings their baby to worship for the first time.

Fourth, we have super music planned for this weekend! See you! Love you all!

So who do you look to for gold stars, applause, affirmation?I have to admit that I have a habit of wanting to collect gold stars. I could probably put to use all those reward/consequence charts I create for my kids and use them for me! You see whenever I do something, such as clean the house, make lunch or dinner, grocery shop, get the Christmas cards out on time, make our family video, get the hotlunch order in on time, make it to the gym and actually work out I would really like a gold star. I want my effort and sacrifice to be recognized, applauded, appreciated by someone aka my husband. I am blessed to have married an amazing man and he does compliment me, encourage me and thank me. The reality is that I do these things because I either need to or I want to; so what…

Abraham Kuyper, Stone Lectures

“Henceforth the curse should no longer rest upon the world itself, but upon that which is sinful in it, and instead of monastic flight from the world the duty is now emphasized of serving God in the world, in every position in life.

But of course, whenever two elements appear, as in this case the sinner and the saint, the temporal and the eternal, the terrestrial and the heavenly life, there is always danger of losing sight of their interconnection and of falsifying both by error or one-sidedness. Christendom, it must be confessed, did not escape this error. A dualistic conception of regeneration was the cause of the rupture between the life of nature and the life of grace. It has, on account of its exclusive love of things eternal, been backward in the fulfilment of its temporal duties. It has neglected the care of the body, because it cared too exclusively for the soul….This dualism, however, is by no means countenanced by the Holy Scriptures. …the work of redemption is not limited to the salvation of individual sinners, but extends itself to the redemption of the world, and to the organic reunion of all things in heaven and on earth under Christ as their original head.”

	February 3, 2012

	Dear Saddleback Family,
